Nigeria is no stranger to attacks or explosions on special days, especially during significant religious celebrations.
Maiduguri, the Borno capital appears to be at the center of these attacks in recent times. According to reports, two explosions rocked the city on the eve of the Id el Kabir celebration less than 48 hours after the convoy of the state governor, Babagana Zulum was attacked by suspected terrorists.
Eyewitnesses say the incidents occurred around Custom area, along Tashan Bama road, at about 05:47 late Thursday and at least five persons have been reported dead.
Police Commissioner in the state, Mohammed Ndatsu, confirmed the explosions and casualty figure to newsmen, stating that the type of explosives used for the attacks has not been identified. He also hinted that the attacks was carried out by insurgents.
Over the years, members of the Boko Haram terrorist group have carried out similar actions in the state, killing hundreds of people in the process. On Twitter, however, news of the explosion is the main subject of discourse today as many call on the government to do all that is necessary to protect the lives of Nigerians who live in the state.
A fresh state of unrest has been caused within maiduguri. The convoy of @ProfZulum was attacked, and few hours ago multiple blast rocked the capital of borno state leaving many people dead.

The explosions once brings to the fore once again, the argument on the need for the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to relieve the Service Chiefs of their appointment and undertake an urgent overhaul of the security architecture, especially as it relates to the fight against insurgency and banditry. Most importantly also, with heightened attacks and killings witnessed in Southern Kaduna in recent times as well as in other parts of the North, the security agencies would need to step up their strategies to ensure that Nigerians celebrate the Id el Kabir celebrations in peace.
